If you’re visiting Broken Bow, chances are most of your trip will revolve around the lake, your cabin and Hochatown. That’s completely understandable, but I always encourage visitors to make a little time for downtown Broken Bow too.
I’ve had my jewelry shop downtown for years, and one of the things I love about this area is how many locally owned businesses you can visit within just a few blocks. Downtown isn’t so big that you need to spend an entire day here. You can park, walk around, browse several shops and still have plenty of time left for whatever else you have planned.
If you enjoy supporting small businesses when you travel, here are some downtown Broken Bow stops I think are worth adding to your list.
h.g. Jewelry

I’ll start with our own little corner of downtown.
At h.g. Jewelry, I make sterling silver jewelry using turquoise, natural gemstones and other materials I’ve collected over the years. Much of what you’ll find in the shop is handmade by me here in Broken Bow, and a lot of the pieces are one of a kind.
We also offer permanent jewelry, which has become especially popular with girls’ trips, sisters, mothers and daughters, wedding groups and friends who want something to remember their Broken Bow trip by.
If you’re someone who likes bringing home something that has a little more meaning than a typical souvenir, I hope you’ll stop in and take a look around. Our inventory changes all the time depending on what I’ve been making.
Shabby Shack

Shabby Shack is right next door to us, so it’s an easy one to add while you’re here.
They carry a mix of home décor, gifts, clothing and other finds, and it’s the kind of shop where you can spend a while looking around even if you didn’t come in searching for anything in particular.
I always tell visitors that if you’ve already parked to come see us, you might as well walk next door and see what they have too.
Half Top Mercantile
112 N Broadway St, Broken Bow, OK 74728
Half Top Mercantile is another locally owned shop along Broadway and a nice addition to downtown.
They carry a mix of merchandise with a western and mercantile feel, including locally sourced items and gifts. Like a lot of small shops, what’s available can change, which is part of what makes stopping in fun.
If you like finding things you aren’t going to see at every chain store back home, it’s worth browsing.
Youngblood’s Gifts
121 N Main St, Broken Bow, OK 74728
Youngblood’s Gifts has been a familiar name in downtown Broken Bow for a long time.
They carry a wide variety of clothing, gifts, home décor, jewelry, furniture and other items, so there is usually something for just about everyone in the group to look at.
It’s a good stop if you’re shopping with several people who all have completely different tastes, because you’re not limited to one type of merchandise.
Rowdy South

For clothing and accessories, add Rowdy South to your downtown shopping list.
They carry styles for both men and women along with shoes, accessories and gifts. It’s another good place to stop when you want to browse something besides traditional souvenirs and find something you’ll actually wear once the trip is over.
Sassy & Classy Boutique

Sassy & Classy Boutique is another locally owned downtown option for women’s clothing, accessories and gifts.
If you’re on a girls’ trip and everybody is in the mood to shop, this is the kind of place that’s easy to work into the afternoon. You can browse, see what’s new and probably end up finding something you weren’t planning to buy when you left the cabin.
That seems to happen a lot on girls’ trips.
Savvy Chix Boutique
125 W 1st St, Broken Bow, OK 74728
Savvy Chix Boutique is another longtime local stop for women’s clothing and accessories.
They carry apparel along with shoes, purses, jewelry, hair accessories and other pieces, so it’s a good place to look if you want to update your wardrobe or just enjoy boutique shopping.
Between Savvy Chix, Sassy & Classy and some of the other nearby stores, you can easily spend a good portion of the afternoon shopping for clothes without having to drive all over town.
The Shoppes

The Shoppes is a nice stop if you enjoy browsing several small businesses and vendors in one place.
Because the selection can include products from different sellers, there’s usually a good variety of gifts, locally made items and other things to look through.
Places like this are some of my favorites when I travel because you never really know what you’re going to find until you walk in.
The Ramble Shack

The Ramble Shack is another downtown stop with an artisan and gift-shop feel.
If you’re looking for something a little different or like finding handmade and locally inspired items when you travel, it’s worth checking out.
It also fits well into a downtown shopping afternoon because you can visit it along with several of the other shops on this list without having to make a separate trip.
Camp 259 T-Shirt Bar & Souvenirs

If you want something that says Broken Bow but still feels a little more personal, check out Camp 259 T-Shirt Bar & Souvenirs.
The T-shirt bar lets you create or customize apparel rather than simply choosing from the same few souvenir shirts hanging on a rack. They also carry hats, gifts and other Broken Bow items.
This would be especially fun for a family trip, girls’ weekend or group that wants shirts from the trip without everyone necessarily having to get the exact same design.
Campe’ Diem & The Backwoods Bar
110 N Main St, Broken Bow, OK 74728
Campe’ Diem & The Backwoods Bar is a fun mix of shopping and hanging out.
You can browse merchandise, gifts and apparel, and then take a little break at The Backwoods Bar before moving on to the next stop.
I like places like this for group trips because not everybody has the same shopping stamina. If half the group wants to keep browsing and the other half is ready to sit down with a drink for a little while, everybody can be happy.
Girls Gone Wine Downtown

A lot of people who have been coming to Broken Bow for years already know Girls Gone Wine, but now you can visit them right in downtown Broken Bow too.
Their downtown location makes it easy to add a wine tasting to the same afternoon you’re already spending shopping.
For a girls’ trip especially, it’s a natural stop. Shop for a while, get permanent bracelets together, do a wine tasting and then head back toward the cabin before dinner.
You don’t need to plan an entire day around it. It just fits nicely into the afternoon.
An Easy Downtown Broken Bow Shopping Afternoon
One of the best things about downtown Broken Bow is that you don’t really need a complicated itinerary.
If I were sending someone downtown for a few hours, I’d tell them to park and take their time. Start around Broadway, visit Shabby Shack and h.g. Jewelry, and then make your way through some of the other boutiques and shops nearby.
Depending on what your group likes, you can browse Half Top Mercantile, Youngblood’s, Rowdy South, Sassy & Classy, Savvy Chix, The Shoppes and The Ramble Shack.
Stop by Camp 259 if you want a custom Broken Bow shirt, spend some time at Campe’ Diem, and work in a tasting at Girls Gone Wine Downtown while you’re here.
You don’t have to hit every single place on the list. Pick the ones that sound like your group and enjoy the afternoon.
Why I Think Downtown Broken Bow Is Worth the Stop
When people think of a Broken Bow vacation, downtown isn’t always the first thing that comes to mind. Hochatown and Broken Bow Lake get most of the attention, and for good reason.
But downtown gives you a different look at the community.
These are small businesses owned by people who live here, work here and have built something they hope visitors will enjoy. When you shop locally, more of what you spend stays in the community you came to visit.
You also tend to bring home better stories.
Maybe you designed a shirt at Camp 259. Maybe you found something for your house at Shabby Shack. Maybe you picked up an outfit at one of the boutiques, discovered something made by a local artist or found a turquoise ring I had just finished making that week.
Those are the kinds of things I like bringing home from a trip myself.
Make Downtown Part of Your Broken Bow Trip
If you’re staying in Hochatown or near Broken Bow Lake, downtown Broken Bow is close enough to make an easy addition to your trip.
Come down for a few hours, walk around, shop with some locally owned businesses and see what you find.
